NGC 4053 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a with an active galaxy core in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 319 million light years from the Milky Way and about 115,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4042 , NGC 4055 , NGC 4057 , NGC 4072 .
The object was discovered on May 9, 1864 by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
