NGC 4053 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a with an active galaxy core in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 319 million light years from the Milky Way and about 115,000 light years across.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4042 , NGC 4055 , NGC 4057 , NGC 4072 .

The object was discovered on May 9, 1864 by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
