NGC 4024 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type I / SB0 in the constellation Raven south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 68 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 3094106 , it forms an optical pair of galaxies and is considered a member of the 27 galaxies of the NGC 4038 group ( LGG 263 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4027 , NGC 4033 , NGC 4038 , NGC 4039 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on February 7, 1785 .
