NGC 4000 is a spiral galaxy from the Hubble type Sbc in Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 203 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter. Presumably it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with NGC 4005 and it is considered a member of the NGC 3987 group ( LGG 261 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3993 , NGC 3997 , NGC 3999 , NGC 4011 .
The object was discovered by Lawrence Parsons on April 25, 1878 .
