NGC 3995 is a spiral radio galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBm in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 145 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 3991 and NGC 3994 , it forms the galaxy trio Arp 313 or Holm 309 .
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy triplet belongs to the class of galaxy groups .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3966 , IC 2978 , IC 2979 , IC 2981 .
The supernovae SN 1988ac (type Ib / c?) And SN 2000ez (type II) were observed here.
The object was discovered on February 5, 1864 by Heinrich d'Arrest .
