NGC 3977 = NGC 3980 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 263 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 115,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3972 , NGC 3982 , NGC 3990 , NGC 3998 .
The object was discovered on April 14, 1789 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
