NGC 3987 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 200 million light years from the Milky Way . Together with five other galaxies, it forms the NGC 3987 group ( LGG 261 ).
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 16, 1785 .
