NGC 3976 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble-type SBb in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 108 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 125,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3976A and IC 748 .
The object was discovered on April 13, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
