NGC 4003 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 with an active galaxy core in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 289 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 4002 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair KPG 312 .
The galaxies NGC 3983 and IC 744 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 10, 1785 .
