Grotenhielm (noble family)
Grotenhielm , also Grotenhjelm , is the family name of an extinct Baltic-Swedish noble family whose origins can be found in Saxony . Several of them were in the service of the Russian Empire . The highest office as Governor General of Estonia was held by Georg Friedrich von Grotenhielm (1721–1798).
history
The ancestors of the Grotenhielm family were the Grotenfelt family, they were accepted into the Swedish nobility on January 4, 1677 (registration number 1032) and introduced into the Swedish knight house on November 8, 1686 . Originally, the Grotenfelts came from Saxony and came over the Baltic provinces of Finland , where they were taken in the Knight House of Finland (registration number 76) 1818th Sometimes they were also referred to as Grote, Groth or Groote. From the Finnish family line the Rittmeister Adam Groth, who was in Swedish service, became the master of Sallentack († after 1653) in Estonia. He, as well as his family and immediate relatives, were accepted into the Swedish aristocracy on September 16, 1653 under the name "von Grotenhielm" (also Grotenhjelm in Swedish), but not introduced into the Swedish knighthood . The Estonian lineage began with Adam von Grotenhielm / Grotenhjelm .
In 1752, the Grotenhielm family derived their claim to entry into the Estonian knighthood on the elevation to the Swedish nobility in 1653. She also referred to the donation of the Sallentack estate in 1625 by the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf , who gave them this property as a man's fief. With Georg Friedrich von Grotenhielm, the family was included in the Livonian and Oselsche nobility registers in 1780 .

Possessions
- Sallentack
In 1625, King Gustav Adolph of Sweden lent the rider Peter Groot several pieces of land in Pernauschen . This resulted in the Sallentack estate, whose ownership was confirmed in 1653 to the son of the first purchaser, Adam Grotenhielm. The Rittmeister Magnus Gustav von Grotenhielm sold the estate on March 22, 1749 to Pernau's councilor Jacob von Dohren for 7157 rubles , while his son, George Friedrich von Grotenhielm, redeemed it again. From 1785 the Grotenhielms were again owners of Sallentack, which was sold to the highest bidder on November 23, 1814.
