Georg Friedrich von Grotenhielm (also Grotenhjelm ; Russian : Георгий (Григорий) Евстафьевич Гротенгельм * 19th October 1721 , † 8. October 1798 on Good Sallentack in Estonia ) was a Russian general-in-chief , Russian governor in Estonia and Senator in the Governing Senate of the Russian Empire .

Life

Georg Friedrich von Grotenhielm came from the Baltic-Swedish noble family von Grotenhielm . His father was the Russian cavalry master Magnus Gustav von Grotenhielm (1687–1753), lord of Sallentrack and Kollo in Estonia. His mother was Charlotte Sophie Marcks (1704–1743) from Stettin . His military career began in 1738 in the Imperial Russian Army in Butyrkschen- Infantry - Regiment . In 1752 he received the Estonian indigenous community . As Prime Major , he served in the Seven Years' War in 1757 . In 1759 he moved to the Ladoga regiment as a lieutenant colonel , after which he was promoted to colonel in 1762 and was appointed regimental commander of the Butyrsk Infantry Regiment. His other promotions were to brigadier in 1768 , major general in 1770 and finally lieutenant general in 1774 . His last use was that of the commander of the Byelorussian division.

As lieutenant general he became Russian governor in Estonia in 1779 and was naturalized in Livonia in 1780 . From 1783 to 1786 he was civil governor in Estonia. With the introduction of the new administrative structure in Estonia, he became General en Chef and Senator in the "Governing Senate" of the Russian Empire in 1786 .
