Wachtmeister is the name of a Swedish noble family with origins on the island of Dagö ( Estonia ), who immigrated to Sweden in the 16th century .

When the Teutonic Order dissolved in Estonia, the non-aristocratic families lost their property.

  • Hans Wachtmeister († 1590), Swedish officer and progenitor of all branches of the Swedish family. He acquired the nobility name in German military service. He cameto Swedenfrom Livonia in 1569 , enteredSwedish serviceas a cavalry officer and was ennobled simultaneously with a number of German knights in 1578. He eventually became a colonel in Estonia in 1581.
  • Hans Wachtmeister zu Björkö (1609–1652), baron, grandson of the aforementioned Hans, major general and councilor
  • Hans Wachtmeister zu Johannishus (1641–1714), Count, son of the aforementioned, admiral and Reichsrat. In 1684 he acquired Johannishus Castle, whichbelongs tohis descendants from the line of Count Wachtmeister af Johannishus to this day.
  • Axel Wachtmeister zu Mälsåker (1643–1699), count, brother of the aforementioned, field marshal and royal councilor
  • Bleckert Wachtmeister (1644–1701), brother of the aforementioned, major general

  • Hans Gabriel Trolle-Wachtmeister (1782–1871), son of Count Carl Axel Trolle-Wachtmeister (1754–1810) and Hilla Birgitta Trolle , hence since 1810 with the name Trolle-Wachtmeister . This line is still based at Trolle-Ljungby Castle in Kristianstad and Trolleberg Castle in Staffanstorp .
