NGC 4014 = NGC 4028 , is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 166 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 213916 it forms an optical pair of galaxies.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on December 30, 1783 and recorded in the NGC catalog as the 4028th entry. His son, the astronomer John Herschel, also observed the galaxy in 1832, albeit without recognizing its identity, which is why it is listed again in the NGC catalog as NGC 4014 .
