IC 744 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 347 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 100,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3951 , NGC 3983 , NGC 4002 , IC 739 , among others .
The object was discovered on April 19, 1893 by Stéphane Javelle .
