IC 727 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 260 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 125,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3820 , NGC 3833 , NGC 3839 , NGC 3869 , among others .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 23, 1892 .
