IC 746 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc with extensive star formation regions in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 223 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter. Together with five other galaxies, it forms the NGC 3997 group ( LGG 260 ).
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3944 , NGC 3987 , NGC 3989 , NGC 3993 .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 13, 1893 .
