NGC 3944 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 161 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 70,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3899 , NGC 3902 , IC 746 .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on April 6, 1785 .
