NGC 3936 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Water Snake in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 82 million light years from the Milky Way . It is the brightest member of the four-galaxy NGC 3936 group ( LGG 253 ).
The object was discovered by John Herschel on March 24, 1835 .
