NGC 3916 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Ursa Major at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 260 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 115,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3913 and NGC 3921 , among others .
The supernova SN 1974D was observed here.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 14, 1789 .
