NGC 3901 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Giraffe at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 82 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light-years across. It is a member of the eleven galaxies NGC 4589 group ( LGG 284 ).
The galaxies NGC 4159 and NGC 4127 are in the same area of ​​the sky .

The Type Ia supernova SN 2017igf was observed here.

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 2nd, 1801 .
