NGC 3904 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E2 in the constellation water line at the southern sky . It is an estimated 62 million light years from the Milky Way . It is a member of the five galaxies numbering NGC 3923 group ( LGG 255 ).
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 7, 1791 .
