NGC 3923 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E4-5 in the constellation Hydra at the southern sky , which is about 69 million light-years from the Milky Way 's center.
Shell-like structures were discovered here, indicating that a smaller galaxy has merged with the elliptical galaxy here. In a recent study, up to 42 dishes were identified.

The object was discovered on March 7, 1791 by the German-British astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel .
