NGC 3895 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa with an active galaxy core in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 145 million light years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years across. Together with NGC 3894 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 294 or KPG 303 and together with PGC 36862 a galaxy trio . She is considered a member of the NGC 3963 group ( LGG 251 ).

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 18, 1790 .
