NGC 3871 = IC 2959 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sb with an active galaxy core in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 432 million light years from the Milky Way and about 180,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 3878 , NGC 3880 , NGC 3881 , IC 2958 .

The object was discovered on April 3, 1831 by John Herschel with his 18.7-inch reflector telescope.
