NGC 3859 is a lenticular galaxy with extended star formation from the Hubble type Sb in Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 242 million light-years from the Milky Way , about 85,000 ly in diameter, and is a member of the Leo cluster of galaxies Abell 1367 .
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3857 , NGC 3862 , NGC 3864 , NGC 3867 , among others .
The object was discovered by Edouard Stephan on March 23, 1884 .
