NGC 3844 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 301 million light years from the Milky Way , about 105,000 ly in diameter, and is a member of the Leo cluster of galaxies Abell 1367 .
The galaxies NGC 3840 , NGC 3841 , NGC 3842 , NGC 3845 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Heinrich d'Arrest on May 8, 1864 .
