NGC 3822 = NGC 3848 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 276 million light years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3817 , NGC 3819 , NGC 3820 , NGC 3825 .
The object was discovered on April 15, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
