NGC 3822 = NGC 3848 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 276 million light years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3817 , NGC 3819 , NGC 3820 , NGC 3825 .

The object was discovered on April 15, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
