NGC 3812 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in Leo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 159 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter. Together with two other galaxies, it forms the NGC 3798 group or LGG 245 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3798 , NGC 3814 , NGC 3815 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 6, 1785 .
