NGC 3862 is an elliptical radio galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 289 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter . She is a member of the Abell 1367 Galaxy Cluster.
The galaxies NGC 3857 , NGC 3859 , NGC 3868 , IC 2955 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 27, 1785 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel with his 18.7-inch reflector telescope.
Images from the Hubble Space Telescope show that the galaxy has an accretion disk in its center and, based on this, a 900 parsec (around 3000 light years) long, changing jet , which is the subject of research in numerous papers.
