IC 2968 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a with an active galaxy core in the constellation Leo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 294 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3937 , NGC 3940 , NGC 3943 , NGC 3947 .
The object was discovered by Hermann Kobold on April 2, 1894 .
