NGC 3951 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble-type S in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 287 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 95,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3983 , NGC 4002 , IC 739 , IC 744 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 10, 1785 .
