final

The clear favorite for this final was the Turkish World Champion of 2017 and Vice European Champion of 2016 Ramil Guliyev. Among his strongest competitors were the British World Cup fourth Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, his compatriot Adam Gemili as European champion in 2014 and the Spanish defending champion Bruno Hortelano. The Swiss Alex Wilson also made a very strong impression in the semi-finals.

Three runners came out of the starting curve, almost level, onto the home straight. These were Guliyev, Hortelano and Gemili. Mitchell-Blake and Wilson followed closely behind, and Irish Leon Reid wasn't far behind either. On the home stretch, the favorite Ramil Guliyev clearly prevailed and became European champion. The fight for the places behind him was extremely close. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake came second, while Alex Wilson won the bronze medal with him. Defending champion Bruno Hortelano took fourth place just a hundredth of a second back. Adam Gemili finished fifth another five hundredths of a second ahead of the Italian Eseosa Desalu, who was also not far behind with three more hundredths of a second. The ranks seven and eight went to Leon Reid and the Dutchman Solomon Bockarie.
