Johannes Günther Haufe (born February 25, 1922 in Dresden ; † July 26, 2014 there ) was a German physicist . He was best known for his work in the field of electron optics and as a lecturer in experimental physics at the Technical University of Dresden .

Live and act

Haufe grew up in Dresden-Briesnitz and attended elementary school there from 1928 to 1932, and later the Wettiner grammar school in Dresden (Abitur in 1940). Then he began studying technical physics at the Technical University of Dresden. In 1941 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and served as a soldier under Erwin Rommel in North Africa in 1942/43 ; in May 1943 he defected into British captivity in Tunisia . From 1943 to 1948 he was in American and French captivity (Camp Forrest, Tullahoma / Tennessee and, among other things, in the coal mining in Lorraine ).

After the Second World War , Haufe continued his physics studies in Dresden, which he completed in 1952 as a graduate physicist. He then worked as an assistant and senior assistant. In 1957 he received his doctorate to become Dr. rer. nat. under Alfred Recknagel, the habilitation followed in 1965. He was temporarily head of the main physics department of the Institute for Air and Cooling Technology Dresden and working group leader in the physics section. In 1987 he retired.

The appointment as professor failed during the time of the GDR for political reasons, because Haufe, a staunch Christian, pacifist and sympathizer of the environmental movement, was considered "ideologically unadapted" and was critical of social and university-political developments. Only after the end of the GDR was he appointed professor in 1992 in recognition of his special merits in teaching and research.

Haufe contributed significantly to the development and further development of physics training at the Dresden University of Technology (since 1961: Dresden University of Technology). He provided generations of engineering students in particular with the necessary physical skills in a brilliant way. His scientific work was primarily concerned with electron optics and the didactics of physics . In his private life, he also showed a broad interest in technology, astronomy, mathematics, philosophy, theater, literature, music as well as environmental, nature and homeland protection.

Haufe was married (widowed since 1997) and had three children.
