Günther Horvatek

Günther Horvatek (* 1943 ; † June 21, 1986 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and as such a member of the Styrian state parliament from October 23, 1978 until his death . His father was a member of the National Council, member of the state parliament, state councilor, as well as deputy governor Norbert Horvatek (1888-1982).

Life

Günther Horvatek was born in 1943 as the son of the educator and politician Norbert Horvatek. After successfully completing school - among other things, he was a school colleague of Erwin Zankel - and finished his studies, the doctor started his professional life. For example, from 1963 to 1975 he was a reporter and freelancer for Neue Zeit , a social democratic daily newspaper from Graz , and was a freelancer for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). During this time he teamed up with Gerald Schöpfer , among others , and had cabaret appearances in the Forum Stadtpark , which he then reported himself about in the Neue Zeit . He also often wrote about performances by other artists. Together with Schöpfer and the cabaret program Der Hammer , he toured as far as Zurich, among other places .

From 1978 to 1979 he was the managing state party secretary of the SPÖ and from January 1, 1980 to June 1, 1985, he was the state party secretary of the Socialist Party of Austria. With the entry into force of the IX. During the legislative period , Günther Horvatek followed in his father's footsteps and became a member of the Styrian state parliament on October 23, 1978. He was a member of the finance, community, constitution, incompatibility and immunity committees and also held functions in the control committee and in the committee for science and research. From October 28, 1981 he was also chairman of the committee for state hospitals, sanatoriums and nursing homes. Horvatek died on June 21, 1986 at the age of 42 as a result of an accident. At this point in time it also belonged to the Xth legislative period of the Styrian Landtag , which expired on October 18, 1986.
