Dieter-Anton Binder (born June 13, 1953 in Graz ) is an Austrian historian and university professor.

Life

Dieter A. Binder attended the modern grammar school and studied history , German and law in Graz from 1971 . After studying in Vienna and Bonn , he received his doctorate from the University of Graz in 1976 with a thesis on the foreign policy of the authoritarian corporate state in 1933/34. Since his habilitation in 1983 he has been teaching at the Institute for History at the University of Graz. Since 2003 he has also been teaching at the Andrássy University in Budapest , where he heads the chair for cultural studies.

Binder was also a temporary lecturer at other universities: from 1979 to 1994 he was visiting professor in the SUNY program at Binghamton University in the US state of New York , in 1990 visiting professor at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar ( Senegal ), from 1997 to 1999 visiting professor of the Diplomatic Academy Vienna and from 2009 to 2011 he had a teaching position at the FH Joanneum in Graz.

Dieter A. Binder was or is a member of numerous scientific research institutions and commissions, such as the International Research Center for Cultural Studies (1991–2012), the Julius Raab Foundation (1996–2001), the Karl von Vogelsang State Prize (since 1991), the Victor Adler State Prize (since 1991), the Dr. Wilfried Haslauer Library (since 1992), the Monument Commission at the Federal Ministry of National Defense (chair since 1994, chair since 2004) or the Center for German-Moravian Literature at Palacký University in Olomouc (since 2013). He is also a member of the Görres Society and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts .

His research focuses on Austrian history and contemporary history , political culture in the 20th century, National Socialism , anti-Semitism , Masonic research , the history of science and cultural anthropology .

Binder is a member of the AV Winfridia Graz in the ÖKV and the KStV Arminia Bonn in the KV . He is a member of the KÖStV Markomannia-Eppenstein Graz and the KÖStV Lonsperch Deutschlandsberg in the MKV .
