Ernst Bruckmüller (born April 23, 1945 in Eselsteiggraben, municipality of St. Leonhard am Forst in Lower Austria ) is an Austrian historian .

Life

After attending the Stiftsgymnasium Melk , where he was a member of the Catholic student association K.Ö.St.V. Nibelungia Melk received his habilitation in 1976 for the subject of economic and social history after studying history and German at the University of Vienna , where he became a member of KaV Norica Wien in the ÖCV . In 1977 he was appointed associate professor for economic and social history at the University of Vienna. In 1991 he was appointed chairman of the Institute for Austrian Studies and has been the editor of the institute's publications ever since. In 2000 he was appointed professor for economic and social history at the Institute for Economic and Social History at the University of Vienna.

Since 2002 he has also been the director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for the History of Rural Areas.

  • National awareness and nation building
