Günther Lüschen

Günther Lüschen (born January 21, 1930 in Oldenburg ; † November 15, 2015 in Hanover ) was a German sociologist .

Lüschen studied sociology, German literature, philosophy and sport at the University of Cologne , the University of Bonn , the University of Graz and the University of Michigan . After various teaching activities, including at the Sport University in Cologne , he became a lecturer at the PH Hagen in 1963 , and a professor at the PH Bremen in 1965 , before he was appointed Associate Professor of Sports Sociology at the University of Illinois in Urbana (USA) in 1966 and promoted to Full Professor in 1972 has been. In 1981 he returned as Director of the Institute for Sports Science at the RWTH Aachen back; When the institute was dissolved and moved to the University of Düsseldorf , he became the director of the sports institute here until 1995. He then accepted an appointment at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for the Sociology of Health , where he also retired in 2001 .

His main areas of work were sports sociology , family sociology, the sociology of health and the history of German sociology. He was the president of the World Association of Sports Sociologists.
