Günther Mensching

Günther Mensching (born March 4, 1942 in Bonn ) is a German philosopher. His focus is on the history of philosophy , metaphysics and social philosophy .

Mensching, son of the religious scholar Gustav Mensching (1901–1978), studied philosophy , sociology and ethnology at the University of Frankfurt am Main . He received his doctorate in 1969 with Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno with a study of the social theory of French materialism , which was published as a book in 1971 under the title Totality and Autonomy . From 1970 to 1977 Mensching was a lecturer in Frankfurt / M. In 1972 he became an academic councilor, and in 1994 he became a university lecturer at the Lower Saxony University of Education, Lüneburg Department (since 1989 University of Lüneburg). In 1979 he completed his habilitation at the University of Hanover , where he worked as an adjunct professor from 1985 and as a professor from 1997 until his retirement in 2007. He also held a visiting professorship at the Université Paris I in the semester 1984/85 .

He is a member of the advisory board of the Institute for Social Sciences in Hanover .
