Günther Pallaver

Günther Pallaver (born February 9, 1955 in Bozen ) is an Italian political scientist and historian from South Tyrol .

Life

Pallaver, who comes from Branzoll , attended the Franciscan high school in Bolzano and then studied law at the University of Innsbruck from 1974 to 1980 . From 1977 to 1979 he was also chairman of the South Tyrolean Students' Union . He then completed a degree in history, art history and political science. In 1986 he received his doctorate with a dissertation supervised by Gerhard Oberkofler on Catholic moral concepts in the 16th and 17th centuries in Tyrol .

During and after the end of his studies, he worked as a teacher at various South Tyrolean secondary schools and as a journalist for the daily newspaper Alto Adige and for the South Tyrolean weekly magazine ff . In 1989 he began teaching as an assistant and lecturer at the Institutes for Political Science and Contemporary History at the University of Innsbruck. In 2001 he obtained his habilitation with the thesis Dimensions of Ethnic Conflict Regulation. South Tyrol as a case study between Consociational Democracy, Europe of the Regions and Italy's political system in transition . Between 2005 and 2009 he was the deputy dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology at the University of Innsbruck. In 2010 he was appointed university professor.

Pallaver has been visiting professor at the University of Trento and the Free University of Bozen several times since 2006 . He works for numerous print media in Italy and Austria and is President of the South Tyrolean Society for Political Science . In his work he deals in particular with contemporary South Tyrolean history, everyday history in the early modern period, the political system of Italy and questions of political communication.

Pallaver has given his extensive estate to the South Tyrolean Provincial Archives .
