Günther Wiesinger

Günther Wiesinger (born September 19, 1930 in Vienna ; † August 16, 2010 in Wolfenreith near Habruck ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and specialist. Wiesinger was a member of the Austrian National Council from 1973 to 1983 .

After elementary school, Wiesinger attended a secondary school, where he graduated from high school in 1948. Then Wiesinger studied medicine at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1954. Wiesinger ran a practice as a specialist in internal medicine and a rehabilitation institute from 1961. He also built several rheumatism outpatient clinics as well as a private sanatorium and a spa hotel in Strobl.

Wiesinger was already involved in politics during his studies and was chairman of the main committee of the University of Vienna and the central committee of the Austrian student body from 1952 to 1954 . Before that, in 1948 he had joined the Catholic Austrian University Association Nordgau Vienna in the Austrian Cartel Association . After completing his studies, he became a member of the General Assembly and the Board of Directors of the Vienna Medical Association in 1956, to which he belonged until 1960. He was also general secretary of the Association of Austrian Doctors and from 1971 chairman of the working committee for health and the environment of the federal party leadership of the ÖVP. Between November 26, 1973 and May 18, 1983 he represented the ÖVP in the National Council, where he was health spokesman for the ÖVP parliamentary club for many years.
