Günther XLII. von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (born September 7, 1570 in Sondershausen ; † January 7, 1643 ) ruled between 1593 and 1643 as Count von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen .

Life

Count Günther XLII. was the eldest son of Count Johann Günther I of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (1532–1586) and his wife Countess Anna (1539–1579), daughter of Count Anton I of Oldenburg-Delmenhorst .

At the time of his father's death he was still a minor and was therefore, like his younger brothers, under the guardianship of their unions , Count Johann VII (1540–1603) and Anton II (1550–1619) of Oldenburg . From 1593 Günther XLII ruled. jointly with his brothers Anton Heinrich , Johann Günther II. and Christian Günther I.

The devastation of the Thirty Years' War fell during her reign , from which the county, especially Arnstadt and the surrounding area, suffered greatly from billeting and other burdens of war.

Günther XLII. died in 1643 as the last of the brothers, he remained unmarried and without descendants. Shortly before, Anton Günther I had already taken over the business of government from his father Christian Günther I, who had died in November 1642.
