Günther Zirkenbach

Günther Zirkenbach (born October 25, 1930 ) is a former German police officer and SED functionary. He was head of the district administration of the German People's Police (BDVP) in Frankfurt (Oder) .

Life

Zirkenbach was a member of the German People's Police (VP) and started an officer career. At the VP Officers' College in Berlin-Biesdorf , he qualified as a political scientist. He joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). Zirkenbach was promoted to colonel of the VP on July 1, 1970 and was deputy chief of the district authority of the German People's Police (BDVP) Halle until 1972 . From 1972 to 1982 he was head of the BDVP Frankfurt (Oder) (successor to Kurt Krüger ). From February 1974 to 1982 he was a member of the SED district leadership and from 1976 to 1982 a member of the Frankfurt (Oder) district assembly. At the same time he was 1st chairman of the Frankfurt (Oder) district management of the Dynamo sports association . On June 30, 1980 he was appointed Major General of the VP by Erich Honecker . Zirkenbach was then until December 1985 deputy head of the staff for organization of the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR (MdI) . He was dismissed from the service of the People's Police because of total disability and was given retirement.

Zirkenbach is a member of the Initiative Group for the Protection of Social Rights and lives in Berlin.
