Kurt Krüger (diplomat)

Kurt Hermann Ernst Paul Krüger (born September 17, 1925 in Jüterbog , † October 21, 2006 in Berlin ) was a German SED functionary and ambassador of the GDR in Afghanistan .

Life

The son of a waiter and a saleswoman attended elementary school and high school in Jüterbog as well as the free school community Wickersdorf (near Saalfeld). In 1943 he passed his secondary school diploma and was drafted into the Reich Labor Service , which he performed in Unterried (near Tamm). In June 1943 Krüger was drafted into the Wehrmacht . In September 1944 he defected to the Red Army as a sergeant in the fight for Jassi and became a member of the National Committee Free Germany (NKFD). He then ran front propaganda among the fighting troops on behalf of the NKFD. From December 1944 in Soviet captivity , he carried out numerous special orders for the NKVD in the Asbestos , Resch , Jegorachina, Kostensowo and Irbit camps . From 1948 he was production manager in camp 7351/6. He also attended an Antifa school in Tagil (near Moscow) .

After his return to Germany in October 1949, he was initially used to register the returning prisoners of war in the Gronenfelde returnee camp . He was then a civil engineering worker at the Bauunion in Jüterbog. In February 1950 he was appointed advisor for youth protection in the Luckenwalde district office. In 1950 he became a member of the Free German Youth and the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and became a full-time functionary of the party. In 1950/51 he was head of the agitation department of the SED district leadership in Luckenwalde, and from April to August 1951 he carried out illegal orders from the SED Central Committee (Labor Office) in the Federal Republic of Germany. In September 1951 he became second secretary of the SED district leadership in Luckenwalde. In 1952 he took part in a course at the state party school "Ernst Thälmann" in Schmerwitz .

In 1953 he joined the People's Police (VP). From 1953 to 1962 he was an instructor and head of the MdI sector in the "M" department or the security department of the Central Committee of the SED. Krüger was then from 1962 to 1972 as colonel of the VP chief of the district authority of the German People's Police in Frankfurt (Oder) . From 1963 to 1972 he was a member of parliament and at the same time chairman of the permanent commission for order and security of the local district assembly . In 1967 he became a member of the SED district leadership in Frankfurt (Oder).

In 1972 he became a member of the International Relations Department of the SED Central Committee and Deputy Secretary General of the Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee of the GDR . Krüger was then Secretary General of the Solidarity Committee of the GDR from 1974 to March 1982. From July 25, 1982 to July 1986, he was the GDR's ambassador in Kabul . In 1988, Krüger retired.
