Klaus Wolf (diplomat)

Klaus Wolf (born November 17, 1934 in Leipzig ; † March 15, 2019 in Löbau ) was a German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to the Netherlands , Iran , Afghanistan and Austria .

Life

After attending secondary school and graduating from high school , Wolf studied foreign policy at the Institute for International Relations in Moscow from 1953 to 1959 . In 1959 he joined the diplomatic service of the GDR. From 1963 to 1967 he worked as deputy head of the commercial agency in Accra . From 1967 to 1973 he headed the ministerial office in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From April 1973 to December 1975 he was the first GDR ambassador in The Hague after diplomatic relations had been established between the GDR and the Netherlands . From January 1976 to August 1979 he was ambassador to Tehran , and from there he was also ambassador to Afghanistan from June 1976 to August 1978. From 1979 to 1986 Wolf was head of the information department at the MfAA. From September 1986 to 1990 he was the last ambassador of the GDR in Vienna . Wolf was a member of the SED .

Klaus Wolf died on March 15, 2019 in Löbau. He left behind his wife and 2 grown sons.
