Wolfgang Konschel

Wolfgang Konschel (born July 31, 1931 ; † September 18, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Syria , Jordan and Iran .

Life

Konschel, the son of a working-class family, learned the profession of printer and graduated from the German Administrative Academy in Forst Zinna and the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg by 1953 .

In the same year Konschel joined the diplomatic service of the GDR. Until 1955 he worked as a consultant for Asian People's Democracies in Department I of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA) and was first secretary of the FDJ operating group. From 1955 to 1957 he worked at the embassy of the GDR in Pyongyang ( Korean People's Democratic Republic ). From 1960 to 1963 deputy head of the commercial agency, then consul in the consulate general in Baghdad . From 1964 he was deputy head of the 3rd Non-European Department ( Arab States ). From 1966 to 1970 he was head of the consulate general in Cairo , then counselor there until 1972. From 1972 to 1977 he was the GDR's ambassador in the Syrian capital Damascus , and from September 1974 to 1977 he received a second accreditation in Jordan . From 1977 to 1979 he was again active in the MFAA, this time as head of the Middle and Middle East . From 1979 to 1983 he was ambassador to Tehran .

Konschel was a member of the SED . Until his death he was a pension consultant and a member of the federal board of the Society for the Protection of Citizenship and Human Dignity
