Gerhard Waschewski

Gerhard Waschewski (born January 12, 1929 in Königsberg ; † 2009 ) was a German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in the Netherlands , Norway and Iceland .

Life

Waschewski, the son of a worker, first attended business school and then studied Slavic Studies at the University of Rostock . Between 1950 and 1952 he studied foreign policy at the German Administrative Academy in Forst Zinna .

From 1952 he was a member of the diplomatic service of the GDR. From 1954 to 1957 he was cultural attaché in Prague , and from 1957 to 1961 he worked at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR MfAA. From 1961 to 1966 he served as second or first secretary of the embassy in Yugoslavia . From 1966 to 1967 he headed the ministerial office at the MfAA. From 1967 to 1971 he was the deputy head of the GDR commercial agency in Vienna . From 1971 to 1975 he worked as a sector manager or as deputy head of the Western Europe department at the MfAA. From 1975 to 1981 he was ambassador of the GDR in the Netherlands, from 1984 to 1989 ambassador to Norway and second accredited in Iceland.

Waschewski was a member of the SED .
