The officers 'college of the Ministry of the Interior - Readiness (OHS des MdI) was named Artur Becker and was one of the officers' colleges in the GDR . It served the training of officers primarily for the People's Police readiness , but also other armed organs . The students carried student officer ranks during their service at this OHS . Graduates who successfully completed their studies at the OHS were usually appointed lieutenant of the VP .

history

“The riot police did not have their own officers' school. It was not until the beginning of the 1960s that the training of train drivers began in the willingness to teach (Potsdam), although the majority of officers continued to be trained at NVA schools. "

“The training of officers, which until now had almost exclusively been carried out by the NVA, turned out to be more complicated. In October 1962, the establishment of the Central Training Institute of the MdI for the training of military cadres - ZLA (M) - began in Dresden, which began teaching in February 1963 after the corresponding preparatory work. "

The teaching facility under its first commanding major of the VP Weigelt was located in Dresden (Trachau) , Neuländer Straße 60 (today directly on the federal highway 4 , junction Wilder Mann ). A police barracks was built on the site in 1935. The buildings were used by a clinic for the physically handicapped after the Second World War until 1954.

With the elevation to the university in 1971, the name was changed to officers' college - readiness - of the Ministry of the Interior Artur Becker .

The graduates of this officers' college wore a special graduation badge from the 1986 class onwards .

The State Criminal Police Office of Saxony and the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Saxony are currently located on the site .

Study admission

Analogous to the study access regulations for universities and colleges in the GDR, the general university entrance qualification was mandatory for attending this officers' college . It was irrelevant whether the Abitur was taken at a grammar school , an extended high school or on the second educational path. For example, the officers' college offered a separate one-year course for qualified officer applicants to acquire the technical diploma / partial high school diploma . If necessary, this course could be preceded by a shortened basic training followed by a swearing- in.

Accommodation

The accommodation of the OHS students changed over the years. Initially, the division was divided into higher education entrance qualification (HSR), security company (SiKo) and officer student companies (OSK). The latter were housed in houses 18 and 19, on the eastern part of the site. The HSR and the SiKo were housed in older buildings between the teaching buildings and the Muni bunker (in the western part of the site).

This division was later changed and during the three-year training the officer students were accommodated in houses 1 to 3 (old buildings in the south-west) according to company = academic year. During this time, the students with the higher education entrance qualification and the special entrance qualification were accommodated in the buildings at the eastern end, together with the subordinate school. This division was in place until 1984.

With the change to the four-year training at the OHS, the subordinate school was outsourced and the third year of study was housed in the two buildings.
