Günther Beck from Mannagetta and Lerchenau
Günther Beck, Knight of Mannagetta and Lerchenau (born August 25, 1856 in Pressburg , † June 23, 1931 in Prague ) was an Austrian botanist . His botanical author abbreviation is " Beck ".
Life
Beck-Mannagetta, a son of the public prosecutor Josef Beck von Mannagetta and Lerchenau . He studied at the University of Vienna and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.
After a job as a volunteer at the Botanical Court Cabinet, today's Natural History Museum , he was head of the botanical department there from 1885 to 1899. In 1894 he became a private lecturer and in 1895 an associate professor at the University of Vienna.
From 1899 to 1921 he was full professor for systematic botany at the German University in Prague and head of the botanical garden. From 1901 to 1907 Beck-Mannagetta was editor of the magazine Lotos . He also worked from 1899 to 1921 as editor of the Wiener Illustrierte Gartenzeitung .
His main areas of research were plant geography, flora of the Alps and the Balkans.
