G. Adolf Arndt

Gustav Adolf Arndt (born October 21, 1849 in Freienwalde / Pomerania ; † April 22, 1926 in Marburg ) was a German lawyer and university professor .

Life

Arndt, who came from a Jewish family, attended the Kölln high school in Berlin. After graduating from high school, he studied law at the universities of Berlin and Heidelberg. In 1872 he received his doctorate from the University of Berlin . After his preparatory service , Arndt first went to the judiciary. In 1876 he was appointed district judge in Essen. In 1877 he moved from the judicial service to the mining administration. As a secret and Oberbergrat he was deputy head of the Oberbergamt Halle up to the turn of the century. In addition , he completed his habilitation in 1879 at the University of Halle , where he was appointed associate professor in 1893.

In 1900 Arndt was appointed full professor for state, administrative, colonial, church and international law at the University of Königsberg. 1904/05 he was rector of the University of Königsberg. In 1912 he retired. 1917-1919 he took on a lectureship in constitutional and administrative law at the University of Marburg. In December 1919 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Marburg.

Arndt was with Caroline Arndt, geb. Zabeler, married. They were the parents of the social democratic lawyer Adolf Arndt (1904–1974) and the economist Helmut Arndt (1911–1997).
