DG Spradlin

GD Spradlin (actually Gervase Duan Spradlin , born August 31, 1920 in Pauls Valley , Oklahoma , † July 24, 2011 in San Luis Obispo , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Spradlin graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Education and served in China during World War II . Another law degree resulted in many years of practice as a lawyer for an oil company; later he became an independent oil producer who was also involved in local politics. In 1960 he could afford to retire from active activities in this area and turn to acting.

In 1964 he joined the Oklahoma Repertory Theater and received first roles in television series from 1966. He made his feature film debut in 1968 in Will Penny , which was followed by many roles as doctors, judges, military officers and historical figures until 1999. He made his breakthrough as a character actor with his role in The Godfather - Part II , in which he was the corrupt governor Geary. He also played a role in Apocalypse Now . He played American presidents three times: 1985 Lyndon Johnson in a television miniseries, 1986 Andrew Jackson in a television film and 1996 in the action thriller Deadly Christmas .
