The GE AC6000CW is a series of 6-axle diesel-electric locomotives from the US locomotive manufacturer General Electric (GE).
To date, over 300 machines of this series have been manufactured. With an output of 6000 HP = 4474 kW , they are the most powerful diesel locomotives in the world with one machine system. The most powerful diesel locomotive series in the world remains the EMD DDA40X . The latter, however, had two diesel engines .

development

The AC6000CW is a further development of the GE AC4400CW series . The first machines of this series were delivered to the Union Pacific Railroad with the new superstructures, but still with the weaker diesel engines 7FDL-16 of the AC4400CW, but could be upgraded to the more powerful engine 7HDL-16 of the AC6000CW.

construction

As the type designation AC6000CW describes, these vehicles are diesel-electric locomotives in alternating current ( AC ) with 6000 hp = 4474 kW. The diesel engine drives a three-phase synchronous generator, which supplies the electricity for the three-phase asynchronous motors. The drive motors are each controlled individually by an inverter.

The machines ran on three-axle bogies ( wheel arrangement Co'Co 'American term C -C) and large (English w ide body) cab . The series designation is made up of the components marked in bold.

The machines are driven by a 16-cylinder diesel engine from the 7HDL-16 series.
